Outreach Program

The House of Hope Peoria Outreach team will mentor at-risk youth and adults, act as peace ambassadors, and offer conflict resolution and resources. We aim to reduce violence through direct engagement and evidence-based strategies.

Cure Violence Model

The Cure Violence Global Model treats violence as a public health issue, using methods similar to disease control. It involves detecting and interrupting conflicts before they escalate, changing social norms through community engagement, and providing support and resources to those at risk. In 2023, the Peoria Health Department secured a grant to implement this model. As of November 2023, House of Hope Peoria, Inc. has become the second organization to adopt and implement the model, integrating it with their existing outreach approach to enhance community safety and reduce violence.

Evidence-Based Approach

The Trauma-Informed Care Approach at House of Hope Peoria, Inc. is grounded in several key competencies. We prioritize Safety by ensuring both the physical and psychological well-being of staff and participants. Trustworthiness is central to our operations, promoting transparency to build and maintain trust and foster healthy relationships. Peer Support is integral, with our teams collaborating across programs to establish safety and empowerment through a wrap-around approach. Collaboration is essential, recognizing that healing is facilitated by mutual respect among all team members. Empowerment is a core value, with our Executive Director championing an individualized approach to address each participant's unique experiences. Finally, our cultural and historical issues focus on leveraging traditional cultural connections in our nonviolence training while addressing historical trauma to enhance healing and understanding.

Non-Violence Training

We will conduct a 2-part, 5-hour Non-Violence Training for staff, participants, and the community. The training will include components on Emotional Intelligence with a Mental Health Counselor and Trauma-Informed Care from a Credible Messenger. We recognize that generational, environmental, and historical trauma often leads to anger, depression, PTSD, and anxiety, which can manifest as violence and self-harm. By employing our Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) model, we aim to support our community in several key ways: by Realizing the profound impact of trauma, Recognizing its signs, responding with effective coping strategies, and Resisting re-traumatization through the use of available resources. This approach is designed to enhance understanding, foster resilience, and ultimately reduce violence and its effects within our community.
